Grouping

The new grouping mechanism allows for a two-level grouping of tasks and provides better insight into your portfolio. Now, you can easily track things like capacity and workload across projects and teams.

Thanks to grouping, you can get high-level insights into your projects on a portfolio level (see a few examples):

Example: Based on assigned tasks, what is the workload assigned to each person in a project.

Backlog panel

Backlog panel has been redesigned. The new panel helps you find all the unscheduled tasks present in your box.

Use the panel filters to find tasks without

  • dates

  • assignee

  • team

Yearly timeline view

The yearly resources timeline view is available to help you plan and analyze your team's tasks, capacity, and workload for the long term.

  • You can set your timeline's time period to one year.

  • Move to a different spot on the timeline by selecting a date (beginning of the grid)

  • Two new aggregation options have been introduced:

    • quarterly

    • yearly

Workload, capacity, and utilization - tile coloring

The tile colors indicate whether resources are over-allocated or under-allocated. The new view in the Resources module introduces updated coloring rules, where each tile color corresponds to a specific level of resource utilization.

new Now, you can customize the coloring rules to better fit your needs. Settings are adjusted per box type.

If you haven’t created custom coloring settings, the default coloring rules in the new Resources module are as follows:

For individuals, projects, and skills swimlanes:

  • green - utilization under 100%

  • red - utilization is above 100%

Note: yellow is NOT used to indicate approaching over-allocation.

Example: if a person has been assigned 7.8h of workload and their capacity is 8h, the grid cell is green

For the teams swimlane:

  • green - 0% to 80% utilization

  • yellow - 80 to 101% utilization

  • red - 101% or higher utilization

Example:

Usability improvements

  • Snipe to a search result task

  • Task dates visible during resizing

  • Tooltips added

  • Grid cells show units (hours, man-days, percentage, story points)

  • Jump to the nearest task in a swimlane

  • Custom task colors are available - right click on a task to access the color menu

Filters

Filter by panel introduced

gantt module scope module resources module

Filter by functionality is available in the following modules:

  • Gantt

  • Scope

  • Resources (new view)

It lets you filter tasks by built-in fields without the need to use JQL:

  • filtering covers all task types: Jira issues, Basic tasks, Sprints, Versions, etc

  • filtering is based on most of the available built-in fields in BigPicture (regardless of what is in the column):

    • Actual Cost

    • Assignee

    • Baseline End date

    • Baseline Start date

    • Duration Calendar Days

    • Duration Working Days

    • End date, Estimated Cost

    • Milestone

    • Original Estimate

    • Progress

    • Remaining Estimate

    • Risk consequence

    • Risk probability

    • Scheduling mode

    • Start date

    • Status

    • Story points

    • Team

    • Time spent

When checkboxes are used, the “OR” logic applies.

For example, based on the selection in the image below, you will see both the ‘in progress’ and the ‘to do’ tasks.
