SLA Custom Field

This page is about Time to SLA for Jira Cloud.

You can see the target date of your SLA on the SLA Panel, but you may also want to display this information in a custom field. In this case, you can enable the Date Time Picker custom field (which you’ll need to create beforehand) from the Target Date Custom Field section. This will display the target date in the Details > More Fields category, like this:

We’ll explore this feature in two steps:

  1. Set a custom field as the SLA Target Date custom field

  2. Adjust the refresh interval settings of the custom field

Let’s learn how to set a custom field as the SLA Target Date custom field.

First, you need to create the custom field:

  1. Log in to your Jira Cloud Account.

  2. Follow this guide to create a Date Time Picker type custom field.

You can use an existing custom field as an SLA Target Date, but as a best practice, we recommend creating a Date Time Picker type custom field specifically for this purpose.

We don't recommend utilizing a Target Date for more than one SLA because the field may display inaccurate data as a result.

If you have two different SLAs that will appear on the same issue, you shouldn't use a single custom field for both. Create two separate custom fields to avoid any mishaps.

Second, set the custom field as the SLA Target Date custom field:

  1. Go to SLA Configurations in Time to SLA.

  2. Click  in the row of the SLA that you would like to update.

  3. Scroll down and tick the Target Date Custom Field box.

  4. Select the custom field you want to set as the SLA Target Date custom field.

  5. Click Save.

That’s it! Now, all you need to do is to recalculate your SLA data so that you can see the SLA Target Date custom field on your existing issues. If you don't know how, read this article to find out.

For the issues that are updated after this configuration, the SLA Target Date custom field will be added automatically.

Set the Target Date Refresh Interval

You can enter a refresh interval (i.e. 30 minutes) to determine how often you'd like the SLA Target Date custom field to update the target date on an SLA.

When an SLA is paused, the Target Date custom field will store information about how long it has been paused. This information will then be used to recalculate the SLA target date, which will be updated on a regular basis. This will give you a more accurate estimate of how long it will take to complete a task.

To set the Target Date Refresh Interval:

  1. Open Time to SLA and click Settings.

  2. Click Advanced from the sidebar.

  3. Adjust the Target Date Refresh Interval (In Minutes) according to how often you want the information on your custom field to be updated. (Minimum: 2m, Maximum: 1,440m.)

  4. Click Save.
