How to configure an announcement for a specific duration in Jira

This article explains how to create an announcement for a specific date range using the Announcer for Jira app.

Instructions

Here are the step-by-step instructions:

  1. Log into Jira as an Administrator and navigate to > Add-ons.

  2. From left sidebar under ANNOUNCER FOR JIRAselectAnnouncements.

  3. In the Announcer Configuration page,

    a. When you are creating an announcement for the first time, you see the Create one now button to create a new announcement. Click this to create one.
         
    b. If you have existing announcement(s), you see the Add another notification button to create a new announcement. Click this and provide the information needed to create an announcement.
        
  4. Add the details in the Announcement Editor screen.
      a. Click Show advanced options to see the option to select the date range.
          

    b. Select the Enable time restrictions on announcement option to display the calendar.
         
    c.  Select the start and end date to display the announcement for the selected duration. Please note the dates prior to the current date are disabled for which you cannot set announcements.
         For example, select the date range from 10th of Oct to 16th of Nov as shown in the screenshot:
         
  5. Click the Save button to create the announcement.

The announcement is displayed as soon as the targeted users log into the Jira instance for the specific date range.

  • You can also select the date range for announcements for years.
  • It is recommended to test this function in a non-production environment before deploying in production.
  • The feature to set the date range as a current-day for the respective announcement is available from the app version 2.11 onwards.
