Export (Gantt module)

To unlock the Export feature, you need to install the BigTemplate app from the Atlassian Marketplace.

You can export data from the Gantt module to the following formats:

  • PDF image.

  • CSV.

  • XLSX (MS Excel).

  • MPP, MPX, PDF, XML (MS Project).

Depending on the format type, the exported file will also contain data from the Gantt chart.

It is not recommended to exceed 2.000 tasks while exporting data to a PDF file. Doing so can cause problems with generating the correct PDF and opening the file.

How to export Gantt data

  1. Click on the Export button.

The Export button in the Gantt module.
  1. Select the File type from the drop-down menu and define the Range of the scope you want to export.

  • Full scope (all formats support full scope export).

  • Specific time range (only the PDF image supports partial scope export).

Export data modal that appears after you click the Export button.
  1. Click on the Export button.

Export data to XLSX and CSV

Before exporting data, you can adjust the Column View and decide which columns should be visible in the exported file. To modify the Column View, click on the "Manage columns" icon, as presented below.

Then, click on the "Export" icon and choose the XLSX or CSV file type.

Depending on the Column View settings, the imported file can look similar to the one presented below.

The fields related to the structure and dependencies of the tasks are added to each XLSX and CSV file by default (these fields are needed in the case of importing such a file to BigPicture afterward):

  • Key,

  • Parent Row,

  • Issue Type,

  • Start Date,

  • End Date,

  • Parent Key,

  • Link.

Actions that temporarily change data display in the Gantt module, such as Sort by feature, have no effect on the exported data.

Custom templates

To avoid modifying the Column View section before each export, you can easily prepare templates tailored to your needs and use them without needing to adjust displayed columns.

Export to MS Project

All file types use the same format compliant with the MS Project. Although importing a customized template of the MPP type is possible, it does not affect the imported data. Pairing a column with the ID of a given custom field is currently not possible due to a fixed set of fields, which are hard-coded in the app. This set contains the following custom fields:

  • Task Name,

  • Duration,

  • Start,

  • Finish,

  • Predecessors (links),

  • Resource Names.

Export to PDF

Export to MS Project Empty Template (PDF)

The "MS Project Empty Template (PDF)" export exports all tasks, not just those visible on the page.

The exemplary PDF export in the MS Project format:

Export to PDF image (screenshot only)

The exported image is a screenshot of the current view (not clickable) and covers the whole timeline. As there might be blank areas on the timeline, for example, before the first task starts, we recommend applying the date range filters to exclude them.

If you open the Resources panel and then export to a PDF image, the Resources panel will be included in the export:

  • export can be limited horizontally as a specific period

  • export contains all the tasks and resources

  • tasks and resources may be limited by filters and quick filters

The exemplary PDF image export:

Export tasks without dates

The exporting mechanism lets you export:

  • tasks with no dates

  • tasks with a single date (start or end)
