Objective types

Introduction

You can use Jira issues as objectives or create basic objectives that do not sync with Jira and connected tools.

There are two types of objectives that you can define:

  • Regular

  • Uncommitted

The 'uncommitted' objectives are not included in the achievement calculation.

You can assign an objective to a Box (main objectives) or a Team (Team objectives).

Main objectives

Main objectives are not assigned to any team, meaning multiple teams contribute to achieving them.

Team objectives

Team objectives can be used to determine team commitment during a particular Program Increment or Iteration.

Task-based objectives

Any task in a box scope can be added as an objective in the Objectives module. That includes both Jira and Trello tasks.

Method 1:

To add a task-based objective in the Objectives module:

  1. Click + to add a new objective.

  2. Toggle the switch next to the objective name field.

  3. Search for a task.

Method 2:

You can add task-based objectives directly in the Board module.

Basic objectives

Basic objectives (like basic tasks) are stored by the App and do not sync with connected tools (Jira/Trello).

To add a basic objective:

  1. Navigate to the Objectives module.

  2. Click + to add a new objective.

  3. Click the don't toggle switch next to the objective name field.

  4. Create a "Basic objective name".

Regular and uncommitted objectives

The difference between regular and uncommitted objectives is that the Planned Business Value of the uncommitted objectives is not included in the achievement calculation. The uncommitted objectives are separated from the regular ones using a dashed line:

To change the objective type:

  1. Double-click on the objective you want to edit.

  2. Click "Positions" to expand the details.
