Import/Export

This page is about Time to SLA for Jira Data Center. Using Cloud? Click here.

Time to SLA allows you to import and export SLA configurations and calendars between Jira instances. This feature helps you migrate SLA settings without manual reconfiguration.

Prerequisites

Before using the import/export functionality, keep the following in mind:

  • SLAs do not transfer with issues. There is no system for directly transferring issue SLA data when using import/export.

  • Recalculation is required. After importing SLAs, you must recalculate them to see them on existing issues.

  • For high-volume SLA migrations, use Jira Cloud Migration Assistant. This ensures issue SLA history is retained during migration.

Import SLAs from a backup

With the Import function, you can:

  • Restore from backup

  • Import configurations from another instance

  • Apply changes from your test environment

To import your SLAs, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Import/Export on the sidebar.

  2. Click Import.

  3. Select the Backup Type. This can be Legacy SLA(s) or Next-Gen SLA(s).

This only states whether your backup contains Legacy or Next-Gen SLAs. The import process creates Next-Gen SLA(s) for all backup types.

  1. Upload the file (in .json format) you want to import.

  2. Select how you’d like to merge imported configurations with existing ones.

  3. Select the components you want to import.

  4. Match the Project(s), Group(s), and Status(es) in the import file with what you have in your instance.

  5. On the Summary screen, review your selections for any errors. Once you have confirmed that everything is correct, click Import.

Once completed, imported configurations will appear in your instance.

Import SLAs and calendars from Jira Service Management (JSM)

  1. Navigate to Import/Export > Import JSM SLAs.

  2. Select the SLAs you want to import, then click Next.

It is not possible to import calendars alone from JSM. At least one SLA must be selected to import calendars.

  1. Create a new calendar for your calendars or select one of the existing ones.

  1. Click Import.

Wait for the import process to complete, and review the import results.

Export

With the Export function, you can:

  • Take a backup of your SLA configuration and calendars

  • Copy your configurations and calendars from this instance to another Jira instance

  • Transfer changes from a test environment to your product environment

To export your SLAs, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Import/Export on the sidebar.

  2. Click Export.

  3. Select the SLAs you want to export.

  4. Select the calendars you want to export.

  5. Review your choices in the Export section, and click Export when you feel they are prepared.

Your export will be downloaded in .json format automatically.
