Adding editing and deleting risks

Introduction

You can add, edit, and delete risks using the Risks module.

Your issues will only appear on the risk matrix if you set values for the fields used by the matrix. To change the configuration of the module, go to app configuration - Risks. If you want to change the dimensions of the matrix change the number of select options of the configured field.

Any Jira issue can be presented on the matrix. Depending on the Risk management process applied you can create a separate issue type to represent identified risks or simply set the Risk probability and Consequence for tasks that are at risk.

Add Risk - create a new issue

Method 1 (top menu):

Create a new Jira issue.

Fill in the 'probability' and 'consequence' fields to ensure the issue is added to the risk matrix.

Note: Make sure that the Jira project selected is in the scope of the box:

Method 2 (risk matrix):

Create an issue directly in the matrix:

Use the creation dialog to enter the required information. The App populates the Risk Probability and Consequence values.

Limitations

Note that although the Risks module is now available also on Boxes with no Scope, it does not allow you to create new risks (the "Add" button is greyed out).

For example, Box type "Iteration" has its Scope type set to "None". Although the Risks module is listed among other modules, new risk creation and editing is not available.

Adding Existing Issues as Risks

You can add an existing issue, i.e., an issue that already fits within the scope of the Box, by opening the edit dialog and selecting the Risk probability and Risk consequence field values for this issue.

Method 1 (top menu):

Click "+" > Add existing task

Fill in the fields:

  • select a task

  • select risk probability

  • select risk consequence

Method 2 (risk matrix):

Click "+" on the matrix:

Select Add existing task.

Risk fields are automatically populated. Select a task to assign the vaules to it:

Limitations:

Empty box scope.

Before you add existing tasks to a Box, make sure that the scope definition is defined. Otherwise, you will be asked to do it first.

To define the scope definition:

  1. Click:

    1. Define the scope first; or

    2. Add risk > Manage scope definition

  2. Make adjustments.

  3. Click Save to confirm.

  4. Now, you can add existing tasks to a Box.

Bulk adding risks

Jira bulk change functionality allows you to edit multiple issues at once, allowing you to set a change risk probability and a change risk consequence for multiple issues during a single bulk operation.

You can inline edit the following fields once they are added to the column view:

Delete Risks

You can remove the risk (any issue) from the matrix and the register by clicking the "Delete" button. The issue will not be deleted from your Host platform but the values of the mapped fields, such as "Risk probability" and "Risk consequence" will be cleared.

Warning - task could not be moved

When a risk field hasn't been configured in Risks Administration, you can't use the drag-and-drop mechanism to move risk. Contact your Jira admin regarding the configuration.
