Overview 

Inline editing lets you quickly update issues within an Issue Matrix table. With this feature, you can perform immediate changes to the issues in the Issue Matrix tables without leaving the current issue page. You can enable or disable Inline Editing for each column in the Issue Matrix configuration.

Inline Edit is supported for all the Issue Matrix modes - Sub-tasks, Issue Links, Epic, Filter and Custom JQL. 

If you edit a field, which is present in more than one Issue Matrix table in an issue, it is updated in all tables. You can also edit fields, which don't have values in the Issue Matrix table.

You can edit system fields, custom fields and Service Desk fields inline. With Inline Edit, you can modify different types of custom fields in an Issue Matrix table like Select List, Select List (cascading), Story Points and others.

What you can edit inline:

  • System fields

  • Custom fields

  • Service Desk fields

Where you can use inline edit:

  • Jira issue view (Backlog, Search, Project's issues list)

  • Issue detail view in Agile boards

What/when you cannot edit inline:

  • Fields, for which Jira doesn't allow inline editing. (examples: read-only fields, fields that are not editable)

  • Insight fields

  • If you don't have "Edit Issue" permission for the specific issue.

  • Completed issues if the workflow configuration doesn't allow it.

  • Issue Matrix fields nested as columns of other Issue Matrix fields. To edit such fields they need to be added as separate panels.

How it works

Configuration

  1. Navigate to the configuration of your Issue Matrix custom field. (link to Matrix configuration document)

  2. Click on the "Inline Edit" option for the desired column by ticking the "Inline Edit" checkbox.

  1. Hover over a field you want to edit in Issue Matrix.

  2. Once the pencil icon appears, click on the field and start making changes

 

Confirm inline changes

You save changes or cancel any modification to the original issue.
