Gantt column views

Column views in the Gantt module allow you to add different fields as columns and configure their display to help you track various data related to your project items. You can change the column display and its data aggregation (if applicable).

Security and access

Only Jira, App, and Box Admins can access and manage the box configuration.

You can access the box configuration page directly from the Gantt module. Navigate to the Current view and select the Manage Column views from the drop-down menu.

Gantt module.

Alternatively, go to the Switch module > Configuration. On the box configuration page, select Gantt > Column Views.

In both cases, you will land on the same page.

Box configuration page.

The column view configuration page will not be visible if the Gantt module is disabled in a given box or the Inheritance mode is set to Inherited only.

Active column view

When you apply one of the available views in the Gantt module, the view becomes active. On the box configuration page, a green check mark will appear next to its name. This active view means that it will be applied whenever a user opens or returns to the Gantt module.

Inheritance mode

Sub-level boxes will inherit column views if you set the Inheritance mode to Inherited only or Own with inherited in the box type configuration of the upper-level box. As a result, every time you create new views or edit the existing ones in the upper-level box, those views will also be updated in the sub-level boxes.

Default column views

Jira and App Admins can create default column views when the Inheritance mode is set to Own or Own with inherited in the box type configuration. Those views will apply every time a new box is created using that particular box type.

Add new column views

On the box configuration page, click the Add new Column View button. On the New Column View modal, provide a summary of the new view, set the visibility to public or private, and (optionally) write some description.

Click Create to enter the column view creator.

In the column view creator, add the fields from the field list on the right to the column view area on the left using the + (plus) icon next to the field name. Alternatively, drag and drop the selected field (the area on the left will be highlighted with a green color).

These fields correspond to the columns you will see on your task list in the Gantt module.

When you add or drag a selected field, you can rearrange its order by dragging it again. You can also delete it from the column view. Additionally, if the field supports data aggregation, you can set the aggregation method for the fields you added.

If you want to check how your new column view will look, click the Preview panel at the bottom of the column view creator.

When you are happy with your new column view, click the Save button and return to the column view list. Your new column view is at the bottom of the list by default, but you can rearrange the order of the views.

A new column view does not automatically become active (current). To activate it, you need to select it from the current view drop-down menu in the Gantt module.

Edit column views

You can edit any of the column views either on the box configuration page or in the Gantt module.

On the box configuration page > column views list, click on the column view you want to modify to open the column view creator. In the creator, add, remove, rearrange fields (columns), and change their aggregation method (if applicable) the same way you did when creating your new view. Save your changes before you exit the creator.

If you want to change the column view’s name, visibility, or description, click the Details button to prompt the modal.

Alternatively, if you are a Box Admin, you can add and remove columns (and change their aggregation) directly on the task list side. When you modify the current view, click the Save changes button (floppy disk icon) next to the current view box.

Duplicate column views

You can duplicate an existing view and adjust it to your needs. On the box configuration page, click the Duplicate button to create a copy of the selected column view.

A copy of the column will appear at the bottom of the list. You can now edit it and save your changes. To apply this new view to your task list, return to the Gantt module and activate it.

Delete column views

To delete a column view, click the Delete (bin icon) button and confirm your action.

You cannot delete the active view. Your list must also have at least one column view defined.
