Support for Atlassian Server Products (and apps like BigPicture) has ended in February 2024.

Are you planning a migration to Cloud? Make sure you don't lose your BigPicture data/configurations in the process. Check out this page for information on how to migrate BigPicture's data to Cloud. If you have any questions please email support@appfire.com

Column view creator

Table of contents

The column view creator allows you to select and configure fields displayed as columns by the Gantt and Scope modules.

The list of available fields includes native Jira fields and custom fields added by Jira administrators and installed apps. When you connect other tools, fields used by these tools will also appear on that list. Such information will be displayed in the 'Origin column' of the available field list.

Security and access

  • Only a user with a minimum Box admin security role can access and manage the Box configuration.

  • To configure a column view go to Box configuration > Scope or Gantt type module ('Scope' and 'Gantt' are the default module names used) > Column Views > select the clickable name link.

Tree root

Select a field next to which the task hierarchy will be displayed:

For example, the hierarchy is displayed next to the "Summary" field:

Adding a column to the view

To find the fields you want to add as columns, scroll the list of available fields or use the search box. You can use the filter to narrow the list of fields to a selected tool:

We recommend using the 'Built-in" type of fields which display field values from all synchronized fields in Jira and connected tools. For example, the "Start date" built-in field shows the date values from all fields mapped as the start date in the Task configuration and from connected tools, such as Trello.

To add a field, use drag-and-drop and drop it in the green shaded area of the card or click the '+' button:

Field configuration

You can add the same field multiple times with different display and aggregation settings. This way, for example, you can compare the initial estimation with the rolled-up values.

Fields can have different types. It is very important, as it determines what additional display and aggregation settings you will be able to configure. Click the "wrench" icon to open the configuration drop-down:

For example, the status field (type STATUS) when the aggregation is set to "none," can be displayed as:

  • STATUS_DESCRIPTION

  • STATUS_LOZENGE

The aggregation options are very useful and allow you to do basic calculations on the field values or present the rolled-up values using a simple count or percentage distribution. The number fields have the most options to pick from.

The aggregated values are displayed only at the parent level in the task hierarchy:

Filters' effect on aggregations

Active filters (Quick filters, search, date range filter) don't impact aggregation results. All tasks are taken into account during a calculation, even if they have been filtered out and are hidden.

Column preview

Expand the 'Preview' tab at the bottom to preview the column.

Select a task from a Box (issue key).

Ordering of Card views

Default Box Types have default views set to their default order. If non-default views are present, they are put in alphabetical order after all the default ones.

Boxes created from default Box Types have views set to their default order. If non-default views are present, they are put in alphabetical order after all the default ones.

All views in non-default Box types are in alphabetical order.

Column views options

Users have consistent column view permissions for different elements (WBS widget, Risks, Board backlog, Gantt module).

They can:

  • modify a column view (changes are not visible to other users)

  • restore column view settings to the default one set by the box admin.
