Support for Atlassian Server Products (and apps like BigPicture) has ended in February 2024.

Are you planning a migration to Cloud? Make sure you don't lose your BigPicture data/configurations in the process. Check out this page for information on how to migrate BigPicture's data to Cloud. If you have any questions please email support@appfire.com

Skills

Define the skills to assign resources. Each skill is identified using a name and a code, which are required fields.

The skills need to be predefined to:

  • Specify skills required to complete a task using the Skill Widget on the Jira issue details page.

  • Assign resources to skills.

Once configured, you can select the skill at the task level or, in other words, specify the skill required to complete a task. The related effort is used to calculate the skill demand and is evenly distributed over the task's duration. The skill demand will be displayed in the Resource module's Skill panel.

At the resource level, you also need to assign the skills acquired by the resource. The resource’s time is allocated across different skills.

Skill name

The skill name is helpful when:

The first letter of the skill name is displayed in the Resources module, in both Individual and Team centric views, below the resource or the Team name, when the Capacity row is enabled.

Skill code

The skill code is currently not used by any feature, but you can color your skills. Whenever the skill name appears, it will be color-coded as defined here.

Each skill code has to be unique, so a validation error will appear if the same skill code is used more than once.

Add new skills

Enter the required skill name, code, and color fields. You can also enter the additional description to provide more details about the created skill.

Use the "Create another" option to create more than one skill.

Edit skills

Inline editing - double-click (left mouse button) on a field to edit a skill. Changing the skill details will update all skill names within BigPicture.

Delete skills

Use the "Delete" icon on the right to delete a skill. When you click the "Delete" button, you are informed if a skill is assigned to any resources or tasks.

Once you confirm the removal, a skill related to any resources or tasks is deleted from those resources and tasks.

If you change your mind, you need to add a skill again and assign it to each resource separately.

Required skills in field mapping

Skills can be mapped with a "labels" Jira field, making it possible to:

  • Execute bulk changes → you can handle multiple issues simultaneously and assign/remove skills.

  • Search for tasks → skill information can be used in Jira searches.

  • Automate skill assignment → you can use 3rd party add-ons such as Script Runner and Adaptavist.

Security and access

  • Only a user with an App admin security role can access this page.

  • To this page, go to Administration > Resources > Skills.
