Aggregations in the issue matrix panel

Aggregations in the issue matrix panel offer you additional insight into your numerical data. Aggregations are calculations applied to number fields across all issues in the issue matrix panel.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Sum.png SUM: add up all the values.

  • Average.png AVG: calculate the average (or mean) value.

  • minumum.png MIN: find the smallest value.

  • maximum.png MAX: find the largest value.

Configure aggregations in the issue matrix panel

Only admins can configure aggregations for number issue fields in the issue matrix panel.

To configure an aggregation:

  1. Open the Issue Matrix configuration page.

  2. Go to Data > Columns.

  3. Locate a number issue field, for example, story points.

  4. Under the Aggregation column, click and choose an option from the dropdown menu that appears.

The first aggregation is displayed. You can click next to it to add another aggregation.

Understanding the main aggregation

You can have multiple aggregations for a number field, one of which is always the main aggregation.

Selecting a main aggregation: You can choose one or more aggregations for a number field. The first one you choose is the main aggregation, marked with a star.

Main aggregation location: The main aggregation is always visible in the issue matrix panel. Other aggregations appear in a tooltip when users hover over the main one.

Changing the main aggregation: You need to remove the main aggregation to change it with a new one. The next aggregation in the order automatically becomes the new main aggregation.

Aggregations in the issue view

Now, let's explore how aggregations function within the issue view. Here's an overview to guide your understanding:

  • Where to find? In the issue view, aggregations appear at the bottom of the issue matrix panel, under the number field they are aggregating.

  • Which values do they apply to? Aggregations apply to all number field values across all issues included in the issue matrix panel.

  • Are all aggregations for a field shown? Multiple aggregations may be set up for the same number field. However, in the issue matrix panel, only the main aggregation is initially visible under the number field. You can see the rest of the aggregations when you hover over the main aggregation.

Supported time-related number issue fields

Aggregations can only be applied to issue fields of the number type. When you use aggregations like sum, average, minimum, or maximum on these fields, the results are shown in a week|day|hour|minute format.

The number issue fields we support are:

  • Original Estimate

  • Sum.png Original Estimate

  • Remaining Estimate

  • Sum.png Remaining Estimate

  • Time Spent

  • Sum.png Time Spent
