In-app permissions
This page is about OKR for Jira Cloud. Using Data Center? Click here.
Permissions allow you to modify the actions available for specific users or teams. By default, everyone is able to perform any action within the app, but it's easy to customize the setup according to your requirements. Changes in permissions take effect immediately.
If an action is not accessible due to the permissions setup, it will still be visible to the user, but they won’t be able to access it.
To access the permissions, navigate to Settings > Permissions.
Basic Permissions
Basic permissions are ideal for companies that generally want most people to have all permissions, but would like to restrict setting up the tool or editing actions for some. Below, you can find a detailed description of all the available options.
Switching between these options changes the setting for the entire company.
1. Full access
This is the default state of the permissions. When applied, everyone can perform all actions within the app without any restrictions.
2. Global settings control
By selecting this option, you can determine who has access to configure the tool. This is an excellent solution when there is a designated individual or group responsible for overseeing the OKR process. It enables others to concentrate on the OKRs without concerns about setup.
3. Editing control
With this option, you can restrict all editing capabilities for certain people. It allows them to view the OKRs, and doesn't restrict the settings but prevents people assigned from adding new OKRs or editing the existing ones.
4. Global settings & editing control
By choosing this option, you can combine both of the options described above. When a person or group is not added to the Editing control or Global settings control list, they are a Viewer, meaning they can only see OKRs but cannot edit, create, or set up anything inside the tool. When they are added to just one of the lists, the relevant permissions are granted.
5. Advanced setup
This option enables you to define the permissions of specific users or groups precisely, create custom roles, and utilize OKR ownership-based roles to maintain alignment with the OKR process while also respecting boundaries. To learn how to configure the advanced setup, click here.
