What are OKR types?

OKR types help categorize your objectives based on their scope and focus. They differentiate between company-wide, team-specific, and individual OKRs. You can even create custom types for departmental or squad-level goals.

Selecting an OKR type:

When adding an objective:

  1. Click the OKR type dropdown in the first part of the form.

  2. Select one from the available options, including any custom types created by your company.

  3. Fill in any necessary fields and click Create objective.

The selected type will be displayed on the side panel, providing detailed information on the OKR page.

On an Objective's detail page:

  1. Look for the OKR type field in the information section.

  2. If it's empty, click Set type... and choose from the dropdown.

  3. You can change the type anytime.

Adding a new OKR type

  1. Go to Settings > OKR types.

  2. Click Create new OKR type.

  3. Enter the desired name and icon color.

  4. Click Create to create the new type.

It will now be available in all OKR type dropdowns and listed alphabetically in the OKR types settings.

The default OKR types are listed at the end of the list. You can hide them by clicking the eye icon next to them on the OKR types page. A crossed-out eye indicates that the type is not available in any dropdown.

OKRs icons

By activating the color inheritance toggle for Objective icons, you can enable Objective icons within their instance to automatically adopt the colors from their corresponding OKR type icons. This allows you to transition from default icon colors to customizable ones based on the OKR type, making it easier to differentiate OKR types through color coding and improve clarity, especially when working with multiple sub-objective levels.

On the OKR Overview page, the Objective icons will display colors that correspond to the colors of their OKR type icons.

This is particularly useful in cases with multiple levels of sub-objectives, aiding in distinguishing secondary and tertiary levels without confusion. The colors of KR icons remain unchanged to preserve the distinction.

Hovering over an icon will display a tooltip that specifies the type of Objective it represents:

With color inheritance enabled, the Timeline view will provide a coherent and easily understandable display of Objectives, allowing users to grasp the full scope of their projects and tasks at a glance.
