IMPORTANT

On Nov 28, 2025 we released some changes that impact Jira global roles.

  • Users who installed the OKR for Jira app before Nov 28, 2025: No changes.

  • Users who installed the OKR for Jira app after Nov 28, 2025: The app ignores the View and modify OKRs and Administer data of OKRs for Jira permissions. Access to the app is controlled by the in-app basic and advanced permissions, as well as restrictions set for individual OKRs.

Refer to the table below.

Key considerations

  • Regularly review access permissions: Ensure permissions reflect current personnel and roles to maintain data security and privacy.

  • Communicate changes clearly: Inform users of any access changes to avoid confusion and ensure everyone understands their permissions.

Restricting app access

Prevent specific users from seeing OKRs altogether by revoking their app access. Follow these steps:

  1. Access your Jira administration panel and navigate to Settings.

  2. Under the People section, locate and click Global permissions.

  3. On the right side, scroll through the list of permissions until you find View and modify OKRs.

  4. By default, all user groups have this permission. Remove any group you wish to restrict from viewing OKRs by going to the group name and selecting Remove.

App administration

Admin permissions and other roles can be configured within the app. However, there is a method to create a super-admin role that is not reliant on the in-app setup. This provides a way to address any permission issues within the app or any other challenges.

Super admin role

Users and groups assigned to this permission will not be able to see and edit OKRs that are restricted to a group of users that doesn’t include them.

  1. In Jira Global permissions, locate and select Administer data for OKRs in Jira.

  2. Grant this permission to specific users or groups who need unrestricted access to manage all aspects of the app, including:

    • Accessing the app

    • Creating and managing all data (OKRs, teams, labels, periods, etc.)

    • Adjusting settings

    • Setting up permissions and OKR restrictions

  3. Click Save.
