Data residency
Data residency settings determine where your BigPicture data is hosted. It is an important concept in the context of cloud hosting, mainly for legal and technical reasons.
On the one hand, data residency requires organizations to consider all regional data and privacy laws (e.g., GDPR), governmental policies, and even the organizations’ terms and conditions.
On the other hand, data's geographical location can significantly impact latency, that is, how quickly BigPicture users in your company can perform their tasks and other business operations. For instance, data residing 3000 miles away from your business can visibly add latency to your application.
Configure data residency
Jira and App Admins can customize data residency settings on the App Configuration > Region > Data residency tab.
The Data residency tab is available only on Jira cloud. Only BigPicture Enterprise users can customize the region where they store their product data.
BigPicture servers are located in the following AWS zones and regions:
US East 1 (N. Virginia)
US East 2 (Ohio)
Europe West 1 (Dublin, Ireland)
Europe Central 1 (Frankfurt, Germany)
Asia Pacific 1 (Singapore)
Asia Pacific 2 (Sydney, Australia)
Changing the residency location will cause a temporary downtime, usually up to a few minutes.
