How to use Run CLI as a validator

This article explains how to use Run CLI for Jira action in a workflow validator.

Instructions

  1. Log into the Jira instance as an Administrator.
  2. Edit the workflow where Run CLI is to be added as a validator.
  3. Select the transition to which the CLI validator needs to be added and then click the link Validators.
  4. Click Add validator and select CLI action from the list of validation options.


  5. Add the CLI action as per the requirement and save the settings. As an example, add a comment to an issue using the Run CLI action if the custom field was set to A.
  6. Once the transition is performed, you can see the result as per the condition added for validation.

    If the validation fails it throws an error as below sample:
