Report types

The Reports page can be customized by editing the grid or the source data for each chart. Charts support multi-grouping, and you can group your data up to four times.

To modify and create charts, click the "Edit" button.

Security

You can configure the Security settings in the Box Configuration and Business Administration.

To edit the charts, you need one of the following Security roles:

  • Box Editor

element

description

NameThe report name is displayed in the header of each report.
Chart typeTwo types are available:
  • Column chart
  • Pie chart
Formula

Select the count strategy:

  • Task count – shows the number of tasks in different categories, e.g., number of tasks with the "To do" status
  • Field sum – the sum of the selected field values in a given category, e.g., the sum of all Story Points for tasks with the "To do" status

Depending on the count strategy, some fields may be unavailable for a given formula (for example, task count would make no sense for a story points field; field sum would make no sense for a status field, etc.)

Group byThe data presented can be grouped by different fields with up to four levels.
Date filter

Pie charts:

Only data that fits within the selected time frame is part of the report.

Column charts:

You can narrow the range of tasks to be reported using the date filter.

For example, if you want to sum the Story points from all tasks in a project (a "Sum field" report):

  • If you set the filter to Created date between March 1 and March 31, you'll get the sum of Story Points only from tasks created in March.
  • Without the date filter, you will get the sum from all tasks.

Another example: with this filter, you can generate a "Task count" report showing how many Bug tasks were closed in April.

Group by

The "group by" option allows you to break down data without the need to create separate reports.

In the example below:

  • First, data is grouped by status
  • Next, each 'chunk' is further broken down by assignee
  • Next, by Increment
  • Last, by Priority

Navigating between 'group by' levels

The chart shows data from the 'group by' level that you are on - above the chart, you see the relevant breadcrumbs.

  • Click on a chart (particular data slice) to go to a lower level
  • Breadcrumbs can be used to navigate to a higher level of grouping

The report below displays data on tasks in "To Do" status + assigned to "Eric Smith" + the priority.

When you hover the mouse over a chart element, you see the 'group by' (level below) breakdown of a given data chunk.

When you click on a chart data 'chunk,' you go to the level below.

Risk matrix

This report gives you a quick overview of existing risks.

Edit report configuration → you can change some settings to make the report better meet your needs.

When you click on a square, you will see information on tasks in a given cell (status + summary).

Use the arrow icon in the pop-up to go to the Risks module.

Click on a task summary to open a task in Jira.

Team dependencies

This report displays info on tasks with dependencies when:

  • The source task is assigned to one team
  • The target task is assigned to a different team

This allows you to identify areas of the project that are being handled by two different teams, where coordination of work may be critical.

Edit report configuration → allows you only to change the Name of the report.

When you click on a square, you will see information on tasks in a given cell (status + summary + dependency type).

In the example below:

  • Team Omega is a source of one dependency (IN PROGRESS task) going to a task from Team Alfa (DONE)
  • Team Alfa is a source of one dependency (TO DO) going to a task from Team Omega (TO DO)

Hover the mouse over the dependency type to see dependency details

Dependencies

Edit report configuration → allows you only to change the Name of the report.

When you click on a square, you will see information on tasks in a given cell (status + summary + dependency type + Box).

Box

The axes of the report are based on Boxes:

This info is reflected in the details dialogue box.

Box information → lowest level on which a task has been assigned to a sub-Box/ Box.

If a task has not been assigned to any sub-Boxes, the main program Box is listed. If a task is in a sub-Box, that information is used.

Dependency type

Hover the mouse over the icon in the middle to see details.

dependency count

Dependency count is grouped based on a Box in which source and target tasks are.

In the example below:

  • the first dependency count →  source tasks are in Iteration 1.2 and targets in Iteration 1.3
  • the second dependency count → source tasks are in Iteration 1.2 and target tasks in Iteration 1.2

The number of groupings is formed as needed.
