Migrating to Confluence Cloud
Overview
Comala Document Management for Confluence Cloud automates document review and approval workflows. To migrate from a hosted instance, use the Atlassian Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant to transfer spaces, users, and groups. It includes a migration pathway for Comala Document Management workflow-related data.
The migration includes the current workflow state and state-related data such as expiration date, approvers, and approvers status. Workflows can be translated using the hosted app Workflow Translator for Cloud. After the migration, the workflow state is automatically applied when the workflow is activated in each space.
Before migration
Review app functionality in Cloud
For our cloud and data center apps, you can review the product comparison. We also recommend installing and exploring our app in Confluence Cloud.
Preserve workflow events and activities history
The workflow events and activity history for each page are not included in the migration. You can use the Attach Activity utility in your data center app to add the workflow history as a page attachment to use as an auditable record of the workflow history.
Prepare your workflows
Existing workflows are not migrated. However, you can use the Workflow Translator for Cloud tool in your data center app to convert each hosted app workflow to a cloud-compatible workflow template to add to Confluence Cloud. You need to review workflow functionality in the cloud, and if necessary edit it.
Remove page restrictions
Restricted pages can block migration. You can run a pre-migration check to identify these pages and then remove the page restrictions before migrating.
Install the latest app versions
You need to update your Confluence Data Center instance with the latest versions of the Comala Document Management for Data Center app and the Atlassian Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA).
The minimum version of Comala Document Management for Data Center required for a successful migration is 7.8.0.
Migration
1. Setup Confluence Cloud
Create a Confluence Cloud site
Install Comala Document Management for Cloud
2. Use the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant
Assess apps: check cloud compatibility and availability for all vendor apps required in Confluence Cloud
Prepare apps: link the Confluence Cloud site and check that the required apps are installed
Run pre-migration checks: Review users, groups, email domains, page-level restrictions, and vendor app checks
3. Migrate data
Initiate migration: Select data to migrate (spaces, pages, attachments, users, groups and vendor apps)
Monitor migration progress: Track status in the CCMA MIgrations Dashboard
Resolve issues: Fix errors flagged by the CCMA before re-running the migration
Post-migration
Activate workflows: Reapply workflows in each space in the Cloud using the app space settings
Adjust workflow states: Manually update any mismatched workflow states or initialize states using the app space settings
Troubleshooting: If the migration fails, check the logs in the CCMA, re-run the migration, or create a support package and attach this to a support request.
