Dependency type

Soft dependencies

Soft dependencies are just information about a connection between the tasks and have no scheduling impact.

Dependencies can be created by clicking on a dot next to a task. This is useful when tasks are far apart in the structure and using an arrow drag-and-drop method is inconvenient. You can fully configure a dependency in a pop-up dialogue box.

Dependencies from monday Board will be transferred to BigPicture as Soft dependencies, if the dependency column type is set to No Action.

Strong dependencies

Dependency-based scheduling in BigPicture

In BigPicture, there are four types of Strong dependencies, which gives you four possible ways to connect tasks:

  • End to start - the end date of the source task affects the start date of the target task.

  • Start to end - the start date of the source task affects the end date of the target task.

  • Start to start - the start date of a source task affects the start date of a target task.

  • End to end - the end date of a source task affects the end date of the target task.

Dependencies from monday Board are transferred to BigPicture as Strong dependencies (End-to-Start, non-ASAP, no lag time), if the dependency column type is set to Strict or Flexible.

We suggest disabling monday scheduling by setting the dependency column to No Action to avoid conflict between BigPicture scheduling and monday scheduling rules.

Changing the dependency column type from Strict or Flexible to No Action will NOT change dependencies in BigPicture (they remain as Strong type).

Click on a task to see the full list of inward and outward dependencies.
