Create a Synchronization Profile

Jira and Azure DevOps have different approaches to organizing and displaying items, fields, and settings. You can create a sync profile to synchronize one project to another between these platforms. Each profile has specific settings and filters, allowing you to sync items and fields for defined conditions.

Creating your first synchronization profile

To create your first synchronization profile, you need to access TFS4JIRA through the Apps menu in Jira:

  1. Log in to Jira as an administrator.

  2. Click the Settings cog and select Apps under Jira Settings. When the Apps page opens, select Get Started or Cloud Native synchronizer from the Apps left sidebar menu.

    1. If using Get Started, click Start Cloud in the Cloud Native panel.

    2. If using Cloud Native synchronizer, click Configure from the Cloud Native Synchronizer - TFS4JIRA page to open the TFS4JIRA Synchronizer page.

  3. Click Sync profiles.

When you visit the application for the first time, you are greeted with the Let’s synchronize! screen.

  4. Click Create new sync profile to begin.

The Let’s synchronize page does not appear after you create your first synchronization profile. For subsequent synchronization profiles, click Create sync profile on the TFS4JIRA synchronizer page.

Sync Profile page

When creating a new sync profile, there are common elements on each configuration section.

  • Sync Profile # - TFS4JIRA automatically assigns this number when you begin creating a new sync profile.

  • Sync Profile status - the sync profile can be in a DRAFT, SYNC ON, or SYNC OFF state. SYNC ON and SYNC OFF states are only available for completed profiles.

  • Configuration - the number of completed sync profile configurations. Click to open the dropdown to see which configurations are complete, and which ones remain. Click on the configuration to move to that section.

  • Sync Profile name - the default sync profile name is the same as the sync profile number. To change the name, click Edit beside the name and enter a new name. Click the check to change the name, or x to cancel.

Two sync profiles cannot have the same name. When a duplicate name is detected, you will receive a message explaining that the profile name already exists. You must change the sync profile name before you can save and continue with the configuration.

  • Synchronization toggle - Enable and disable synchronization for this sync profile.

  • Sync initial items - Synchronize the Jira project items and Azure DevOps project work items that existed before the synchronization profile was created and enabled (not available for sync profiles in a draft state).

Continue to the General Settings page for information about configuring your sync profile connections and projects.
