General Settings - Cloud Native

General Settings overview

General Settings is made up of three parts:

  • Connections - Select a previously defined Azure DevOps connection or add a new connection. Determine the direction of the Jira / Azure synchronization.

  • Projects - Select the Jira and Azure projects you want to synchronize.

  • Synchronize - Include or exclude comments and attachments in your synchronization. Determine the synchronization direction of the comments and attachments.

General Settings must be completed before completing the other synchronization profile steps.

Currently, TFS4JIRA does not support multiple languages. Default values only work in English.

Connections

To get data from your Jira and Azure projects, TFS4JIRA needs to connect to your instances. Once the connections have been established, you can select the Jira and Azure projects to synchronize.

Connect to the Azure instance

Select the connections needed and the direction of the synchronization.

  • Jira - This is the Jira instance on which TFS4JIRA was installed. The Jira instance information is automatically entered in this field and cannot be changed.

  • Azure - The Azure DevOps instance that contains the project you want to synchronize with Jira. The dropdown contains all previously created Azure connections.

Select Azure, then select an Azure DevOps connection from the list, or select Add Connection to create a new Azure connection. Refer to Create a new Azure Connection for instructions.

  • Direction - Between the Jira and Azure fields is the Direction icon .
    Synchronization can be:

    • Both directions - synchronize data in both directions. Synchronizing in both directions is often used when an organization maintains projects in both Jira and Azure and wants to keep them up-to-date.

    • Jira To Azure - synchronize data in a single direction, from Jira to Azure. This is often used to migrate your content from a Jira project to an Azure project.

    • Azure to Jira - synchronize in a single direction, from Azure to Jira. This is often used to migrate your content from Azure to Jira projects.

Click the Direction icon and select a synchronization direction from the list.

Projects

Once connections to your Jira and DevOps instances have been established, you can select the Jira and Azure DevOps projects you want to synchronize.

If you want to create a new project or change an existing one, select Manage projects from the Jira or Azure fields to go to that platform.

  1. Click in the Jira field and select a project from the list.

  2. Click in the Azure field and select a project from the list.

You can only select an Azure DevOps project if a valid Azure connection has been selected.

Synchronize

Jira and Azure DevOps work items can contain comments and attachments.

Work item comments can provide additional information necessary for completing the task presented in the item.

Attachments can be files like images or pdfs.

TFS4JIRA allows you to include or exclude these comments and attachments from your synchronization.

  1. Click Direction tfs-direct-comments.png beside Comments and Attachments to enable or disable comments or attachments associated with any Jira or Azure items from the synchronization, as well as the synchronization direction.

  2. Click Save and continue to move to Item types.
