HTML in Jira issue

HTML for Jira allows you to embed real-time HTML into your Jira issue and display the resulting content in the issue view. Add HTML either by creating or pasting your own code or using an attachment with HTML code. You can preview your HTML content before saving, edit, or remove it based on your project requirements.

This page explains how to manage HTML in a Jira issue.

Add HTML to a Jira issue

To add HTML code to a Jira issue:

  1. Navigate to the intended issue in which you want to display HTML content.
  2. Click HTML from the menu options to see the HTML for Jira section in the new Jira issue view.

  3. Click HTML from the menu options again or Add HTML in the HTML for Jira section to navigate to the HTML for Jira window for further edits.
  4. Add your HTML settings in the HTML for Jira window.



    • Create HTML from: Select how you want to add your HTML to the issue. The available options are:
      • Create HTML from scratch: Allows you to build or paste your own HTML to display the respective content in the issue. 
      • Import existing HTML from an attachment: Allows you to use an attachment containing HTML to display the respective content in the issue.
    • Content (displayed only when Create HTML from scratch is selected): Enter HTML or copy/paste intended content from an external source into the text area provided.
    • HTML source attachment (displayed only when Import existing HTML from an attachment is selected): Lists the files attached to the issue. Select an attachment from the available list when you want to add HTML from this specific attachment. By default, the value is set to None.

      Only HTML files saved with .txt or .html extension can be used here.


  5. Click the Preview () icon on the top right corner of the Content field to preview the HTML content before saving the settings.

    This option is available only when Create HTML from scratch is selected.
  6. Click Save to save the settings and navigate back to the issue to view the HTML output or click Cancel to cancel adding HTML to the issue.

Step 2 and 3 refer to the new Jira issue view. In the old Jira issue view, replace step 2 and 3 with the following step:

Edit or delete HTML for Jira

To edit or delete HTML content associated with an issue:

  1. Navigate to the intended Jira issue.
  2. In the HTML for Jira section of the issue, hover over the output to view the following icons:


    • Click the delete () icon delete HTML.
    • Click the edit () icon to edit the respective settings in the HTML for Jira window.
