Cloud connections

Prerequisites for creating cloud connections

Site admin or Оrganization admin permission

You must be a Site or Organization admin in Jira Cloud to create connections to the cloud and migrate projects there. Be aware that the user email you provide on the New Connection page in the Cloud Migration Tool must be added to the site-admins or org-admins group on the Jira Cloud site.

You can learn more about the different аdmin roles in Atlassian’s documentation.

Connectivity to Appfire’s Cloud API and file storage

Your Jira Server or Data Center instance must have access to Appfire resources to connect to the Jira Cloud site. If internet access is restricted, ensure connectivity to our Cloud API and file storage is permitted.

Check the complete list of prerequisites for server-to-cloud Jira migrations in the Prerequisites document.

Create cloud connections

With the Cloud Migration Tool and Configuration Manager for Jira Cloud apps, you can connect your Jira Server or Data Center instances to Jira Cloud sites. You can create a connection to your destination Jira Cloud site either on the Move to Jira Cloud home page or during migrations.

After installing the Cloud Migration Tool and landing on its home page, you can easily create your first connection to a Jira Cloud site. That’s a quick way to make a cloud connection without leaving the Move to Jira Cloud home page.

To create a connection to Jira Cloud:

  1. Log in as a user with the Jira System Administrators global permission to your Jira Server or Data Center.

  2. Navigate to the top right of the screen and choose Jira Settings > Configuration Manager.

  3. On the Cloud Connections page, click the New Connection button to create a connection.

  4. Name your connection, and enter the destination Jira Cloud URL, Atlassian account email, and API token. You can learn more about the Atlassian credentials, the API token, and why you need one for migrations here.
The account must be added to the site-admins or org-admins group on the Jira Cloud site. Otherwise, the Cloud Migration Tool won’t let you create the connection.

  5. Test your connection. If the test passes, you’re all set to save your connection.

  6. Click Create to establish the connection and save it.
