How to migrate from WDC(Legacy) to OData

Appfire Tableau Connector for Jira provides you with an optimal solution by offering an OData datatype connector. We recommend that existing customers use the OData datatype connector, as Tableau has marked WDC 2.0 as deprecated.

Update to the latest version (available from version 4.3.0 ) and easily get started with OData. If you have any questions, contact support.

Why migrate from WDC to OData?

Web Data Connectors

  • WDC 2.0 was deprecated in Tableau 2023.1 and is set to be retired in 2025.

  • WDC 2.0 won't be supported after the end-of-life of Tableau v2022.4

  • WDC 3.0 is not a seamless migration, and this is a breaking change. As per Tableau Software, WDC 3.0 has the below limitations.

    • WDC 2.0 Connector is not portable to WDC 3.0.

    • Data downloaded using WDC 2.0 is not compatible with WDC 3.0 Data model.

    • Tableau reports created with WDC 2.0 are not migratable to WDC 3.0.

OData Connectors

  • OData does not need any deployments or configurations from the customer side. Hence, you can easily get started using OData connectors.

  • OData is supported by both Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud and is a long-term solution.

  • Tableau Connector Pro for Jira app supports OData V4. For more information, refer to OData.

Migrate from WDC to OData connector

The WDC to OData migration for Tableau content is not automatic and needs manual migration.

To migrate, follow the below steps.

OData migration limitations

  • WDC connector is not portable to the OData Connector.

  • Tableau reports generated with the WDC connector are not compatible with the OData Connector. The migration is not automatic and requires manual reconfiguration of reports.

  • The data imported using the OData connector in Tableau Desktop may contain one or more blank rows due to a known issue within the Tableau software.
