System fields

This page is about Assets & Inventory Plugin for Jira DC. Using Cloud? Click here.

System fields are pre-defined core fields provided by the app. Unlike Attributes, they do not require any initial setup from the user. You can simply activate or deactivate these fields based on your requirements.

Configure system fields

To control which system fields appear for specific Asset Tpes, you can use the System Field Schemes screen. Here, you’ll see the entire list of System Fields Schemes in your instance. These schemes allow you to define a set of enabled fields for different categories of assets.

Create a system field scheme

  1. Navigate to Assets > Settings.

  2. From the sidebar, click System Fields Schemes.

  3. Click the Create system field scheme button.

  4. Provide a name and, optionally, a description of your scheme for easier identification.

  5. Select the system fields you want to enable for this scheme. The Status and Assignee system fields are available for all assets.

  6. Click Save.

The system fields that are enabled will appear in the right column of the asset interface.

Assigning a system field scheme

You can assign a system field scheme to either an Asset Type Scheme or an individual Asset Type:

  • Asset Type Scheme: If no System Field is assigned to the Asset Type Scheme, the Default System Field Scheme will be active for that Asset Type Scheme.

  • Asset Type: If no System Field is assigned to the Asset Type, the parent of that Asset Type (Asset Type Scheme) will be active for that Asset Type.

You can view and edit your Default System Field Scheme in Assets > Settings > System Fields Schemes. To assign a System Field Scheme to an Asset Type Scheme or Asset Type, follow these steps:

  1. From the app's top menu, click Asset Type Schemes.

  2. Select an Asset Type Scheme, and click Configure.

  3. Depending on your use case, navigate to the System fields configuration section under Asset Type Scheme or Asset Type, and click Configure. The Select system fields scheme screen appears.

  4. Select one of your System Field Schemes.

  5. Click Assign selected scheme.
