Asset custom field

This page is about Assets & Inventory Plugin for Jira DC. Using Cloud? Click here.

AIP allows you to add custom fields for your assets to any screen you want for Jira Core, Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and JSM customer portal. You can filter the custom field’s content by asset type(s) or saved filters.

You can define multiple custom fields specific to your asset types. For example, you can create a custom field for IT by filtering IT asset types and then create another custom field for Human Resources by selecting a saved filter for HR.

Configuring custom field content

Custom fields display all the assets of the system by default. You can limit the forms in the Custom Fields Configuration page. Here is how:

  1. Go to Assets > Settings > Custom Fields Configuration.

  2. Click Configure.

  3. Fill in the form.

  • Custom field contents: You can filter your custom field by:

    • Asset Types: Only displays assets belonging to specific types (e.g., Laptops, Servers). If you want to show all assets (default), select this option, and leave the box empty.

    • Asset Filter: If you want to show assets by a filter, click this option and select a filter. You can only select from system filters.

    • Reporter's Assets: Limits options to assets assigned to the issue reporter.

  • Multiple select: Allow users to choose multiple assets for the field. If you enable this, only the first asset of the custom field will be editable.

  • Show search assets button at Jira Service Management

  • Show selected assets button at Jira Service Management

  • Cascade asset custom fields:

For hierarchical asset fields, configure a child custom field linked to a parent field using the Asset List by Asset Types attribute. Script for linking is required. Refer to this page for detailed instructions.

  1. Click Save.

Now, the custom field will display all assets or the assets of the selected asset types, filter, or reporter's assets. You can test it on the Issue screens.
