Set the SLA goal as a Dynamic duration

This page is about Time to SLA for Jira Data Center. Using Cloud? Click here.

Dynamic duration is a Jira custom field. When you enter a time string here, Time to SLA will set the SLA duration as the input entered in this field.

This lets users enter different SLA goals for each issue. If you have changing SLA durations per issue, you can use this function to set SLA duration dynamically. The SLA clock will count according to this field.

Step 1: Create the custom field

To set an SLA goal as a Dynamic duration, you need to create a custom field that will store the SLA duration beforehand. This custom field will appear only in the screens you select while creating the custom field, regardless of whether you designate the SLA goal as Dynamic duration or not.

  1. Click Time to SLA in the header menu to see the TTS menu.

  2. Select SLA fields.

  3. Click Add Custom Field > TTS - Duration Field. The New TTS - Duration Field screen appears.

  4. Enter a name for the duration field.

  5. Click Save.

Step 2: Add the field to the screens

  1. Go to SLA Fields.

  2. Click the cog icon in the row of the TTS - Duration Field on which you want the screens to be displayed.

  3. Click Screens, and the Jira Screens page will appear.

  4. Tick the screens on which you want to display the duration field.

  5. Click Update.

Now, you can see the Duration field in the Dynamic duration dropdown menu while defining or updating an SLA.

Step 3: Set the SLA goal as a Dynamic duration

  1. Go to the Goal section, and select Dynamic Duration.

  2. Click the drop-down menu to see the date fields you have created before, and select one.

The Dynamic Duration has been set.

(Optional) Set a default value in the duration custom field

Within the TTS - Duration field, you can specify a default value.

  1. Navigate to Time to SLA > SLA Fields.

  2. Click the cog icon in the row of the TTS - Duration Field where you want to set a default value.

  3. Click Configure. The Jira Custom Fields page appears.

  4. Click Edit Default Value. The Jira Set Custom Field Defaults screen appears.

  5. Enter a default value for the TTS - Duration Field.

  6. Click Set Default.
