Asset Types

You can group similar assets together under a particular asset type, which acts as a container for the assets.

Asset types can be customized to your needs by defining specific attributes and properties for different types of assets, which makes it easier to manage them. For example, an asset type for laptops might include attributes such as model, manufacturer, serial number, and warranty information.

AIP comes with asset types including Employee, Supplier, Laptop, License, and Server, but you can add any other asset type you require.

Asset types can be managed as groups under an asset type collection, which can be seen on the Asset Type Collections screen. When putting data into AIP, consider how it’ll be used and who will update it so that you can group it into logical asset collections. This way, you can easily use multiple asset collections for one use case and create links between assets in different asset collections.

On the Asset Type Collections screen, you can see all the asset types under each collection. This will give you a detailed look at each asset type’s components, allowing you to view its attributes, decide which ones are required, as well as edit its permissions and global attributes.

To Create a New Asset Type:

1. On the Asset Type Collections page, open the asset type collection you want to add the new asset type to.

2. Click + Asset Type. The New Asset Type screen appears.

3. Pick the Permissions. By default, the collection's permission scheme will be selected.

Asset permissions are created within permissions schemes, which are then assigned to specific asset type collections by App Administrators. Here is how you can create a new permission scheme.

4. Pick the Global Attributes. By default, the collection's permission scheme will be selected.

Global attributes allow you to select which assets have global attributes. You can assign them to asset type collections. Here is how you can create a new global attribute scheme.

5. Name the asset type. A key will be generated according to your entry, but you can change it however you like.

6. Provide a description, if needed.

7. Select or create new attributes to add to the asset type.

8. You can select which attributes will be required when creating an asset.

9. Click Save.

That’s it! You can create as many asset types as you want by repeating the steps above. The new asset will now appear on the New Asset screen:
