You can use AIP’s 4-step import tool to quickly add all assets, asset stock, and inventory. The bulk import/export function works with predefined CSV templates.

If you want to export your assets from on-premise to cloud, you can easily do so by using the “Export to Cloud” feature. To learn how, refer to this documentation.

For successful on-premise to cloud import, it is crucial that the asset types and attributes are pre-configured in the cloud environment. If the required asset types and attributes already exist in the cloud, users can directly proceed with the import process.

The needed steps are explained in detail below, but we recommend you watch the video to get a quick look before you start.

Step 1: Download the template

To make the transition from another instance to AIP as seamless as possible, we have created a template that can be used as a guide when importing assets.

Export your asset data as a CSV file, and use the template provided to create new assets under asset types. Please closely examine the template and edit the exported assets accordingly to ensure your data is compatible with AIP.

Before importing with CSV, ensure that you have defined the asset types and their attributes in the instance.

You can select asset types to add to the template by checking the “Download CSV File for add or update” box so that you can work on creating new assets for those asset types or edit your existing assets.

Step 2: Upload CSV file

When opening the CSV file with applications such as MS Excel or Libre Office, ensure that the file import options are set as follows:

  • Character Set: UTF-8

  • Asterisks (*) at CSV headers marks required fields.

  • Date formats must match the JIRA date-time formats. If you use Excel, be careful because when your OS and JIRA date-time formats don't match, Excel may change the date-time values to match your OS settings.

  • The format in which times are displayed in CSV should be those accepted by date-fns's format function.

Field Separator

Specifies the character used to separate fields in the CSV file (e.g., comma, semicolon, or tab).

Decimal Separator

Specifies the character used to separate decimal values in the CSV file (e.g., period or comma).

Multi Value Separator

Specifies the character used to separate multiple values in a single cell of the CSV file.

Complete Date/Time Format

Specifies the date/time format used in the CSV file (e.g., YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss).

Specifies the time format used in the CSV file (e.g., HH:mm:ss).

Reference Asset Fetch Method

  • Key

  • Name

  • First Key then Name

Specifies the method used to fetch reference assets.

Specifies the method used to search for users.

Option Search Method

  • ID

  • First ID then Name

After selecting the formats, upload your CSV file and click Next.

Step 3: Review

After uploading your CSV file, AIP will display a preview of the data. Review to make sure that all of the information is accurate and has been imported correctly. If any of the data looks incorrect, you can go back to the previous steps to edit the CSV file and upload it again.

The preview will show you all of the assets that are about to be imported, as well as their details. You can delete any of the assets if you like.

If everything looks good, click the Import button to proceed with the import.

Step 4: Import

When you click the Import button, AIP will begin importing your CSV data into Assets and Inventory for Jira Cloud. The time it takes to complete the import process will depend on the number of assets you are importing.

Once the import is complete, you will see a summary of the import results. This will show you how many assets were successfully imported, as well as any assets that failed to import and the reason for the failure.

If you want to import more assets, click the Import New File button to start the process over again with a new CSV file. If you are finished importing assets, click the Done button to return to the Asset Navigator, where you can view all of your imported assets.
