How to remove users while creating an export from the source instance using Project Configurator for Jira

This article helps to remove unwanted users while creating an export in the Project Configurator for Jira app.

If inclusion of users is not needed, it is not possible when exporting a project with its configuration and its data. Users will be included in the exported zip file.

As a workaround, perform this by manually editing some XML files. Follow the below instructions to accomplish this.

Before making any changes to the XML files, take a backup and perform the changes.

Instructions

  1. To remove the users in the exported zip file, unzip the exported zip file by downloading it and manually editing the configuration files in which users are included.

  2. The configuration files where users are included are config.xml, entities.xml, and activeobjects.xml. Manually remove the user entries that are not needed from these XML files. Note that editing the XML files may corrupt the zip configuration. 

  3. After removing the users who are not part of the project, zip the export file. Also, ensure that the zip file's hierarchy should be as shown in the screenshot below.
