Quick start

DECember 2023 We have released an improved version of Security and Encryption for Confluence Cloud with enhanced security. Check out the next steps for administrators.

This guide helps you create secrets that you can share securely with Security and Encryption for Confluence Cloud.

In this example, we will build a page containing passwords to crucial accounts. The image below shows the result.

Secrets now benefit from the enhanced security provided by zero-knowledge architecture. Learn more in What is a legacy secret?

If your secrets were created before the update, you will need to upgrade your legacy secrets to the new structure. Follow our guide to upgrade your secrets.

Follow these steps

Ensure that you have add/delete restrictions granted in space permissions to create and update secrets

  1. Create a table with two columns by clicking on the table icon on the menu

    • on the header of the right column, type Account

    • and on the left, type Password

    • then, create rows with the names

      • Email

      • Website

      • Accounting

  2. In the first row of the Password column

  3. In the Details tab

    • insert your password details into the pop-up form

    • choose Insert

  4. In the Access tab

    • enter the name of the individual users or user groups you’ll be sharing the secret with

    • choose Insert

  5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the other rows

  6. Once done, publish your page

This example creates multiple secrets for each row in the table.

In the example

  • a user has been added in the Users field. This user has only read-only access and cannot edit or add/remove access to the secret

  • the confluence-users group has been added in the Group Owners field. The members of this group are able to edit or add/remove access to the secret.

The User Owners or Group Owners fields must have a value, if not, the Secret macro configuration cannot be saved.Â
