Edit a Jira workflow
When building automation rules with JSU, you begin with a draft version of your space’s workflow.
If you already have a space(s) in your Jira instance, start reading from Edit the workflow of an existing space.
Edit the workflow of a new space
To edit a workflow in Jira, you need to start with a space. Log in as a Jira or space admin and start by creating a space if you don’t have one yet. You will need this to set up a simple workflow automation with JSU.
Open Spaces > Manage spaces.
Click Create space, then select the space template you want to use. In this example, we use the Task Tracking template.
Enter a name for your space, then select your space type.
The Create space page might look different depending on the template you select. The space key is automatically derived from the space name. This forms the prefix of your work item keys, so you might want to change it to something more descriptive for your users.
Click Next. Optionally, connect your work to the space.
Click Done. Your new space is created with preconfigured work item types and a workflow based on the Task Management template you selected.
In your space’s left sidebar menu, select Space settings > Workflows. Your space’s workflow scheme and assigned workflow display on the Workflows page. Click Edit workflow under Actions.
This opens a draft version of your workflow. You can then select your transition, and edit and publish your workflow as required. You can edit your workflow in Text or Diagram view.
With JSU, you configure workflow transitions by adding post functions and conditions to build your rules. Follow our example in Create your first rule with JSU.
Edit the workflow of an existing space
The quickest way to edit the workflow of an existing Jira space depends on where you start in Jira.
Option 1: JSU button
If you’re on an Agile board for the space whose workflow you want to edit:
Select JSU at the top right of the board, then select Edit workflow.
Confirm the workflow that you want to edit, then click Submit. You’ll be redirected to the Workflows page for your chosen space.
Click Edit in the corresponding Issues Workflows page to switch to Edit mode. This creates a draft of the workflow. You can then select your transition, and edit and publish your workflow as required. You can edit your workflow in Text or Diagram mode.
With JSU, you will configure workflow transitions by adding post functions and conditions to build your rules. Follow our example in Create your first rule with JSU.
Option 2: JSU Get Started page
You can select a space and a particular workflow from the Get Started page in JSU.
Wherever your starting location is in Jira, select JSU Automation Suite for Jira Workflows from the Apps drop-down menu, or from the More menu in a team-managed space.
On the Get Started page, click Create rule.
Select your desired space and workflow, then click Submit. You’ll be redirected to the Workflows page for your chosen space.
Click Edit in the corresponding Issues Workflows page to switch to Edit mode. This creates a draft of the workflow. You can then select your transition, edit, and publish your workflow as required. You can edit your workflow in Text or Diagram mode.
With JSU, you will be configuring workflow transitions by adding post functions and conditions to build your rules.
