Upgrade to the latest Atlassian release of the Jira software version 9.4.11, 9.10.2, 9.11.1 or higher, which includes the MySQL 8.x fix, and the ActiveObjects library upgraded to version 5.0.3. Refer to Issues resolved in 9.4.11.

Time in Status Report

The Time in Status report shows the time elapsed with each status of the issue and the total time elapsed with all the statuses.

Creating Time in Status Report

To create a Time in Status report, follow the steps below:

  1. Click New report > Custom Report to open the Report Designer interface.

  2. Select the report Type as Time in Status.

  3. The reports interface displays the Average Time in status (hrs) measure for all Projects by default.

  4. You can create reports of various measure types. Select the Measure type to view from the drop-down.

    • Average Time in status (hrs)

    • Average Time in status (business hrs)

    • Average Time in status (days)

    • Average Time in status (business days)

  5. The report shows the time for all the status the list of issues has gone through by default. The Status drop-down displays the list of status. Select the list of Status to view from the drop-down.

  6. To view the required fields in the report, add the fields from the left panel by clicking ‘+' sign next to the field name. The fields list contains all standard Jira fields, custom Jira fields for the instance, and calculated fields created using Reports and Timesheets for Jira app. The fields with an symbol are explained in detail here. Fields can be dragged and dropped in the Fields section to rearrange the columns.

  7. Specify filter criteria to search for issues using a JQL statement, Jira Favorite Filter, or Reports Custom Filter builder in the Issues Search panel.

  8. Click Run to view the results in the bottom pane.

  9. Click Save to save the report for future use. To view saved reports, navigate to My Area → My Reports.

The report displays the selected fields for the projects chosen, and the Time is displayed based on the measure type.

  • The initial column shows the Issue Key and the selected fields based on the filter criteria.

  • The report shows the status columns.

  • The status columns are displayed based on the status selected and the time elapsed in each status of the issue is displayed.

  • Total Time in status column: The report's Total Time in status column displays the average time elapsed with all the status of the issue based on the Measure chosen.

  • Total row: The report's Total row displays the average time elapsed in each status and the average time elapsed in all the issue statuses.

  • Time in status history: To view the activity history of any issue status, click the Time in status column value (For reference, in the sample report, for the Issue Key SSD-15 - the Time in status column value for the status In Progress is clicked). The activity history displays detailed information for a particular status.

  • Total Time in status history: To view the detailed activity history of all the statuses for any issue, click the Total Time in status column value (For reference, in the sample report, for the Issue key SSD-15 - the Total Time in status column value is clicked). The activity history displays the complete record with all the status changes made.

You can view the following:

  1. status history

  2. the sequence of changes the issue has gone through

  3. for issue field changes, displays the old and new values

  4. for each history sequence change, you can view what fields were changed, when, and who made the changes.
