Creating Referenced Assets

This page is about Assets & Inventory Plugin for Jira Cloud. Using Server or Data Center? Click here.

Referenced assets are the selected assets on Asset List and Asset List by Asset Types attributes. Asset references are used to show the relationships between assets, such as dependencies between servers and business services. For example, you can create a Computer asset and bundle it with other assets such as Mouse, Monitor, and Keyboard.

To create a reference asset, you need to first create a field that is added to the parent asset.

Create an “Asset for field” Attribute:

1. Navigate to Asset Type Collections > Attributes.

2. Click + Attribute.

3. Start creating the attribute. For the Type, pick “Asset list field”. For more information on creating new attributes, refer to this documentation.

If you want to refence multiple assets in one asset, pick Multi Field.

4. Click Save.

Now the attribute will appear on the New asset and Edit asset screens.

Create Referenced Assets:

1. Open/create the asset you want to form the reference.

2. Click the Search or create attributes to add to the asset type bar.

3. Select the attribute you created. You can also create the attribute here by clicking + Add new attribute. The attribute will appear at the end of the popup.

4. Add the assets you want.

5. Click Save.

The referenced assets will appear as shown below. You can click the arrow to see any of the referenced assets in detail.
