  2. Pick the asset type from the dropdown list. The available asset types include Employee, Laptop, License, Server, and Supplier.

The boxes below will change based on the asset type you've selected. Depending on the asset type, you may need to fill in additional fields, such as manufacturer and model for a laptop asset.

  1. Fill in the boxes with the relevant information for the asset.

  2. Select the Create another asset checkbox if you want to continue adding assets and don't want to be redirected to the Asset Navigator after saving.

  3. Click Save.

Congratulations, you've created a new asset! You can continue creating more assets by repeating the above steps.

Associate assets

By associating assets, you can make one asset conceptually linked to another. There are two ways to associate assets together:

  • Link Assets – You can link different assets together to establish a relationship between them, such as “reports to”, “owned by”, “has”, and “installed to”.

  • Reference Assets – Referenced assets are the selected assets on Asset List and Asset List by Asset Types attributes.

Differences between Reference Assets (asset attributes) and Asset Links

  • Links are great for generic and flexible asset linking. You can define as many link types as you wish and you can link any asset to another.

  • Asset attributes are great for structural data: It is displayed as a field for asset type where users see and enters data. To create a reference asset, you need to define the field for the asset type first. You can make the field mandatory, allowing users to easily understand that they need to connect the asset to another asset. Linking assets is easier; however, users may forget to do it.
