Index error: "Can not search: Exception occurred while getting searcher"

Symptoms

  • The AIP app fails to initialize the Lucene index.

  • "Can not search: Exception occurred while getting searcher" error message appears in the Asset Navigator.

Cause

  • Incompatibility between the AIP app version and your Jira version.

  • Corrupted Lucene index.

Solution

Step 1: Verify Compatibility

Ensure you're using the correct AIP app version for your Jira instance.

  • AIP 6.x is compatible with Jira 8.x.

  • AIP 5.x is compatible with Jira 7.x.

Step 2: Rebuild Lucene Index (Recommended first solution)

  1. From the app’s top menu, navigate to Settings.

  2. Select Indexing from the left menu.

  3. Choose the Delete all indexes and rebuild option.

  4. Click Re-index.

  5. Monitor the progress. Once complete, check the Asset Navigator to see if assets display without errors.

If assets are displayed without error, the problem is fixed. If this does not solve the problem, try the next solution.

Step 3: Reinstall AIP App (if Rebuild Fails)

  1. Enable detailed app logging by following the instructions in the AIP documentation.

  2. Uninstall the Assets and Inventory app.

  3. Delete all files within the JIRA_HOME/assetsAndInventoryIndex directory.

  4. Reinstall the AIP app.

  5. Open the Asset Navigator and verify if the issue persists.
