Problem

While trying to edit the Gadget on an existing Dashboard, the user receives an error message: “The data source doesn't exist, or you do not have permissions.” Users are able to edit the dashboard by selecting “This Jira Instance Datasource,” but configuration changes for gadgets affect the dashboard.

The issue only appears when more than one or two persons have edit permissions on a dashboard.

 Solution

To collaborate on the same gadgets with the same datasource, create a new datasource with the permission of “My organization.” Thus, any logged user in that instance can use that datasource.

Changing the datasource on the existing gadget will remove the configuration. The user will have to reconfigure the gadget or re-create the dashboard with new datasource

Functionality -

The “This Jira instance” datasource is private for each user, so each user has their own “This Jira instance” data source. If a gadget uses a private datasource, then only the datasource owner can use it. This is intended for security reasons, so there are no data leaks and users getting information using other users' credentials.

Our roadmap includes the ability to grant permissions to datasources. Users will be able to share their datasources with other users, giving permissions in data sources more granularity beyond just “Private” or “My organization.”
