This is the documentation of the Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud app. If you are interested in Issue Matrix for Jira Server/DC, you can find the relevant documentation here.

Overview

We designed Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud to enhance the visualization of sub-tasks and linked issues in Jira Cloud. It appears as a separate panel in the issue view screen, displaying customizable lists of sub-tasks, linked issues, issues in epics, issues from a JQL query, and even similar issues (issues with similar text in the summary and/or description fields).

Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud improves productivity by allowing you to add custom fields as columns in the Issue Matrix panel. This way, the app overcomes some limitations of the default visualization in Jira Cloud and enables users to access additional information for all relevant issues in a single view.

What problems does Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud solve?

Issue Matrix addresses problems related to issue visualization within Jira Cloud. The drawbacks of Jira's default visualization can be categorized as affecting usability and productivity.

Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud enhances the visualization of issues in both Jira Software and Jira Service Management (JSM) projects. Check out the comparison table below to understand Jira Cloud’s sub-tasks and linked issues view limitations and how Issue Matrix overcomes them. Each section includes images showing the default Jira view and the improved Issue Matrix panel.

Jira Software & Jira Service Management

Doesn’t show important custom field information (like task estimates) for sub-tasks or linked issues - requires opening each issue separately.

Can show any custom field as a column in the Issue Matrix panel (like task estimate, assignee, due date, etc.)

Generic panel titles (Subtasks or Linked Issues) - can’t clearly explain shown data and is not specific to the process used in a project.

Custom panel titles - the name you give to the Issue Matrix becomes the panel title for easy identification.

No column headers - makes it hard for non-technical users to understand displayed information.

Custom column headers in the Issue Matrix panel. You can keep field names, like Summary, or modify them to your preference for clearer meaning, such as changing to Brief Overview.

Can’t filter for specific sub-task types (like development, testing, documentation, design, etc.)

Can show pre-selected sub-task types - you can configure the Matrix panel to display specific sub-task types, such as development sub-tasks.

Can’t show sub-tasks/linked issues grouped by custom criteria (like issues with upcoming deadline).

Can organize sub-tasks/linked issues fulfilling custom criteria into color categories.

Can’t change the default display order of the sub-tasks/linked issues.

Can customize the display order of sub-tasks/linked issues by using sorting fields like Priority, Status, etc.

Can’t change the default column width.

Can customize the column width in the Issue Matrix panel to achieve better visualization and alignment.

In Jira Service Management, can’t see issues reported by the same customer as the currently opened issue.

In Jira Service Management, can see all issues reported by the same customer as the currently opened issue.

Can’t see issues with the same assignee as the currently opened issue.

Can use extended JQL to filter subtasks and linked issues to show only issues with the same assignee as the currently opened issue.
