Skills synced with monday.com
The synchronization of skills between BigPicture and monday.com ensures data consistency and enables efficient allocation of skills to tasks.
Synchronize skills with monday.com
When the Required Skills field is synchronized with the Skills column in monday.com, any skills added in monday.com will be automatically created and visible in BigPicture, and vice versa.
If you used skills in monday.com or BigPicture before synchronization, the skills assigned to items in monday.com will overwrite the skills in BigPicture after synchronization.
To synchronize the Required Skills field with a monday.com column:
In a monday.com board:
Add the Dropdown column type to a monday.com board.
Change the column name to Skills.
Add labels (skills) to the Skills column.

In BigPicture:
Click on the wrench icon at the top right in the Gantt module.
Select Column mapping from the list.
Synchronize the Required Skills field with the Skills column created in monday.com. You can’t use mirror columns for column mapping. For more information, see the Column mapping page.
Click Save to confirm.
The synchronization is now bidirectional.
How the mechanism works
When the synchronization is set, the skills added to items in monday.com will be automatically:
Added to the items in BigPicture.
Added to the BigPicture > Administration > Resources > Skills page (codes and colors are assigned randomly and can be edited).

Security and access

monday.com roles required to add skills to a column:
Admin
Member
A monday.com admin or member doesn’t need to access BigPicture. Skills added to monday.com columns will be automatically created in BigPicture Administration.
BigPicture
You can’t add skills to items in BigPicture if you can’t access monday.com boards where the items come from.
Restricted column viewing and editing
If viewing or editing the Skills column in monday.com is restricted, you can’t view or add skills to items in BigPicture. To learn more about restricted columns, see the Column views page.
Actions on skills in BigPicture Administration
App admins and App resource admins can edit or delete skills on the BigPicture > Administration > Resources > Skills page.
Edit skills
When skills are automatically created in BigPicture Administration, the codes and colors are assigned randomly and can be edited.
To edit a skill:
Go to the BigPicture > Administration > Resources > Skills page.
Double-click on the Name, Code, Color, or Description field.
The changes will be updated in monday.com once you modify an affected item.
Delete skills
If you delete a skill in BigPicture Administration, it will be removed and unassigned from all items in monday.com and BigPicture.
The skill label will remain available in a monday.com column:
You can remove it manually.
You can use it in the future (once assigned to an item, it will be automatically added to BigPicture Administration again).
To delete a skill:
Go to the BigPicture > Administration > Resources > Skills page.
Click the Delete icon next to a skill.
To confirm, click Delete.
Assign skills to individuals
Skills aren’t automatically assigned to individuals. You need to assign skills manually on the BigPicture > Administration > Resources > Individuals page. To learn more, see the Skills page.
Constraints
You can assign up to 10 skills to one item in BigPicture. BigPicture respects the limitations set for the Skills column in monday.com . For example, if the limit for labels in a monday.com column is set to 8, you can’t add more than 8 skills to an item in BigPicture.
Adding a skill that already exists in BigPicture Administration to an item in monday.com will not duplicate that skill in BigPicture Administration. Case sensitivity is ignored.
You can’t delete a skill label in monday.com while it’s still in use. Unassign it from items first. Removing a skill label in monday.com will not delete that skill in BigPicture Administration.
