How to perform an advanced search on Jira issues

This article illustrates how to fetch and display relevant Jira issues on a Confluence page, and search for issues with a specific issue type. To achieve this, after specifying the required Jira instance to connect to, the Display data filter option is selected to apply filters on the Jira issues fields.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that the required Jira instance is linked with your Confluence instance using application links. Contact your administrator for more information about application links.

Refer to this article for more information about links to Jira instances.

  • Use the relevant search criteria as applicable to your instances.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the required page and add the JQL Table macro to the page.
  2. Edit the macro and select the required Jira instance in Jira application link of the JQL settings tab.

This field is mandatory! If the Jira instance is not specified, an error is shown on preview or after the page is saved as "Jira application links is a required parameter.".

  3. Specify your JQL query in Jira advanced search.

This field is mandatory! You must specify a valid JQL to fetch information from the specified Jira instance. If an incorrect query is entered, an error is shown on preview or after the page is saved as "The Jira server did not understand your search query. If you entered JQL, please ensure that its correctly formed.".

  4. For this example, select Table settings > Advanced settings > Display data filter to allow selection of specific values per column.

If the Jira instance is not specified, an error is shown on preview or after the page is saved as "Jira application links is a required parameter.". "The Jira server did not understand your search query. If you entered JQL, please ensure that its correctly formed.".

You can also perform other functions such as apply styles, format data, download or export the table data. Refer to common table capabilities to know about the features offered with Advanced Tables for Confluence.

In this example, the steps taken are as shown:

  5. Select Preview or Save settings, and publish the page.

In this example, the result is as shown:

You can select a value per column to be searched to filter out irrelevant data.
