Time in Status

The Time in Status custom field is a calculated field that displays how long an issue has remained in the configured status. It is a read-only field.

When creating the field, you can configure it to monitor the current status, in which case the field value will reset when the issue changes status in your workflow, or you can configure it to monitor one or more specific status values. When you configure a Time in Status field to monitor specific status values, the following applies:

  • When you add multiple status value to a Time in Status field, the field displays the total time the issue has been in ANY of those statuses.

  • If an issue returns to a status (e.g. an issue moves from In Progress to Testing and then back to In Progress), the Time in Status field will start accruing time, adding it to the existing value.

Note: The Time in Status field will recalculate whenever an issue is opened. However, limitations within Jira do require that an issue is opened to trigger that recalculation. Due to these limitations, Time in Status fields used in JQL queries and dashboards may not be updated when running the query or viewing the dashboard.

If you added a JMCF custom field through the native Jira custom fields screen, see Edit a custom field, below.

Follow the steps above to add a custom field to your Jira instance, then follow these steps:

  1. In Associate Screens step of the wizard (Figure 2, right), check the boxes for the screens to which the field should be added.

    1. Use the search field above the list of screens to locate a specific screen.

    2. Check the box at the top of the column to add the field to all screens.
Note: some team management screens in Jira do not currently support custom fields!

  2. Click Next.

  3. From the Status(es) to aggregate, select the status value or values which should be included in the calculation of time; selecting *CURRENT will configure the field to track how much time the issue has been in its current status only.

  4. Click Save.
