What happens to my readers in the target space when I publish a page without a read confirmation?

Scenario

I have added a read confirmation to my target space. When I publish the source space page without a read confirmation my assigned readers from the read confirmation on the target space page disappear.

Problem

When the target space content has a read confirmation but the source space does not the publish action

  • removes the read confirmation and read confirmation byline from the target space page

  • sets the page publishing status as SYNCED

However, the read confirmation history for the target space page is not lost.

Solution

If you add a read confirmation to the target space page using the page tools menu this will restore any previous read confirmation history for the target space page. The addition of the read confirmation does set the target space page and draft source space page to be Out of Sync

To SYNC the page add a read confirmation to the draft source space page and publish to the target space page. This

  • restores the previous target space page read confirmation history‡

  • causes the target space page and draft source space page to be Synced

  • sets the target space page read confirmation to PENDING

‡ All assigned readers

  • receive an email notification asking them to undertake the read confirmation

  •  will need to re-confirm including any readers who had confirmed prior to the update

Assigning readers and reader confirmations on each of the target and source spaces does not affect the publishing status. The read confirmation history is not an element of the publishing action.
