Using metadata to define space hierarchies

Overview

Comala Metatadata App provides support for the creation of hierarchical spaces through space metadata.

By default, Confluence provides a flat list of spaces, but as your wiki grows this becomes harder and harder to manage.

The Comala Metadata App allows you to create new parent spaces and to parent other spaces into it.

  • you simply attach a single piece of space metadata to the home page of the space indicating the key of its parent space

The metadata is used to visually group spaces, but does not affect the existing Confluence permissions schemes.

Defining space hierarchies

The Comala Metatadata App allows you to attach a single piece of space metadata to the home page of the space indicating the key of its parent space to create a hierarchy for the space. This allows the grouping of spaces in your instance rather than the Confluence default flat listing fo spaces.

The process requires the definition of a root space (with an option for a defined user space) alongside the addition of metadata to set the hierarchy.

The Comala Metadata App includes a number of additional macros (see below) to support the creation of hierarchical spaces
