User Guide - Cloud
On this page
Overview
This guide explains in detail how a user can avail all the features the Announcer for Jira and Announcer for Confluence apps have to offer on cloud. Announcements are a means for Jira or Confluence administrators to communicate important information to their users. These announcements are pre-configured by an administrator to be displayed to targeted users based on different user groups and Jira projects or Confluence spaces. When you, as a user, log into your Jira or Confluence instance, you are notified with these announcements as configured.
Announcements in Jira
Jira cloud users can:
- View the announcements configured for their projects in the Jira issue view.
Add the Announcer for Jira gadget to their dashboards to view the announcements configured for them. This gadget lists all the announcements that are acknowledged.
Announcements are displayed on the dashboard only when the Announcer for Jira gadget is added to the dashboard.
Announcement types
Banner
A banner announcement is displayed on the top of the page. This banner is displayed until you acknowledge or dismiss. You may still continue with your activities even if you do not acknowledge the announcement.
The Banner announcement type is not available on Jira cloud.
Dialog
A dialog announcement is one where the announcement is displayed in a dialog-box. You need to acknowledge the announcement to go ahead with other activities in your Jira or Confluence instance.
Full Page
A page announcement is one that occupies the entire page to display the related information. You need to acknowledge the announcement to go ahead with other activities in your Jira or Confluence instance.
Flag
A flag announcement is displayed on the bottom left corner of the page in Confluence or top right corner of the issue view in Jira. You may navigate to other pages without acknowledging this announcement. But, this announcement keeps popping up in every page you visit until you acknowledge.
User actions
As a user, you can perform certain actions once you are notified with an announcement. These actions are configured by your administrator. The following are some example actions:
- Dismiss or Acknowledge: Click to acknowledge that you have gone through the announcement. If there are multiple announcements, you can scroll through each, and accept or dismiss an announcement. If your administrator chose to disable the Should the accept button be shown checkbox, the Acknowledge button is not displayed and you can only dismiss the announcement. Your administrator is notified once you acknowledge an announcement. If you want to undo this action, navigate to your profile menu on the top right corner and select My acknowledged announcements.
- Remind me later: Click this when you have no time to go through the announcement contents and you wish you view it a while later. The time period after which the announcement is displayed is configured by your administrator. You do not have control on it.
- About this: Click to know more about the other clickable options in the announcement.
You may notice different labels for the Dismiss (or Acknowledge) and Remind me later buttons depending on the settings by an administrator.
