This page is about OKR for Jira Cloud. Using Data Center? Click here.

Sometimes, cloning an OKR is a better idea than creating a new one from scratch – especially if you just want to reschedule it to another quarter or add a KR that’s similar to the one you already have.

There are two ways of cloning your OKRs:

  1. from the OKR Overview

  2. from each OKR’s detail page

Cloning Objectives

  1. Click the three-dot icon of an objective, and select Clone objective. A dialog with the cloning process displays.

  2. Select where you want to clone your objective.
If you’re unsure where it should be placed in the structure, open the Objective selector and choose the Remove current objective option. This will set the objective you’re cloning as top-level. You can always change it later.

  3. Select the new period from the list or click the Set as parent button to ensure you’re cloning the objective to the same period as the selected parent objective.

  4. Decide if you’d like to clone your history of updates along with the objective.
This might be a good option if you’d like to continue working on an objective started in another quarter and you’d like to have all the context at your hand. You can always clear the history if you don’t need it afterward.

  5. Click the Yes button if you’d like to clone individual key results and sub-objectives. Their progress history will be copied or not, depending on the settings for the objective you’re cloning.

  6. Click Clone objective.

After your objective is cloned, it’ll be placed within the selected period. On the detail page of the cloned objective, within the Info section, you will find a link to the original objective from which it was cloned.

Cloning Key Results

Cloning key results is similar to cloning objectives but simpler.

  1. Click the three-dot icon of a key result, and select Clone key result. A dialog with the cloning process displays.

  2. Select an objective from the list.
In OKR for Jira, you can’t create a key result that doesn’t have an objective, which is why you must select an objective.

  3. Select a new period from the list or click the Set as parent button to ensure you’re cloning the key result to the same period as the selected parent objective.

  4. Decide if you’d like to clone your history of updates along with the key result.
You can always clear the history if you don’t need it afterward.

  5. Click Clone key result.

After your key result is cloned, it’ll be placed within the selected period. On the detail page of the cloned key result, within the Info section, you will find a link to the original key result from which it was cloned.
