Overview

Vanity metrics? Might be, but having a quick overview of the numbers of your repositories sometimes helps us to keep our feet on the ground. Besides that, software development is inherently complex and this complexity increases with the numbers. Frederick Brooks already pointed out in No Silver Bullet -Essence and Accident in Software Engineering (1996) “From the complexity comes the difficulty of communication among team members, which leads to product flaws” and “Software entities are more complex for their size than perhaps any other human construct”. So, numbers matter in software, and we want to make yours visible throughout your organization.

This gadget displays the number of developers involved in your repositories, the number of repositories they work on and the PRs merged (we are adding more interesting metrics, stay tuned).

Configuration

Name your gadget meaningfully, so everyone knows at a glance what it is about and when to use it. Fill out the rest of the fields as applicable, namely:

  • The datasource, select a Bitbucket datasource (see Add and Manage Datasources).

  • Finally, indicate if you want to use the current settings for all the compatible gadgets in the dashboard. This option eases the pain of configuring one by one the rest of the gadgets with the same default configuration.

Integrations

We are working on our growing catalog of Gadgets: KPIs and Metrics and Dashboard Integrations: Datasources, but contact us you want us to expedite a specific one, visit our Help Center.

Dashboards

This gadget appears in the following dashboard: DevOps Software Team template (see Devops Software Team dashboard).
