In this section, you can manage the Column Views of a given Box. Column Views allow you to add different fields and configure their display and aggregation settings, determining how data is presented in the type module's task list.

Security and access

  • Only a user with a minimum Box admin security role can access and manage the Box configuration.

  • To edit the Column Views, go to Box configuration > Gantt type module (Gantt is the default module name used) > Column Views.

The Card View configuration page will not be visible if the Gantt module is inactive for a given Box type or the Inheritance mode is set to ‘inherited only.’

  • Alternatively, to access this page, you can click the "Manage Column views' button in the Card View drop-down of the Board type module:

Active Column View

If you apply one of the available Views from the Column View drop-down, it becomes "Active," and a green check mark will appear next to its name. This means that this view will be applied whenever a user opens the module or returns to it.

Inheritance mode

The Column Views can be inherited by the sub-level Boxes when the Inheritance mode is set to "Inherited only" or "Own with inherited" in the Box type configuration of the upper-level Box. This way, every time you create new views or edit the existing ones, all available views will also be updated in the sub-level Boxes.

To learn more about the inheritance mode, go to Inheritance mode.

Default Column Views

When the "Inheritance mode' is set to "Own" or "Own with inherited," App Admins can create the default Column Views, which will be used every time a new Box of a given type is made.

To learn more about the inheritance mode, go to default column views.

Adding new Column Views

A newly created Column View does not automatically become active (the green checkmark indicator remains next to the currently selected Column View).

If you want to use it, go to the Gantt module and select it from the drop-down:

Click the  "Add new Card View" button to add a new layout and fill in the fields marked with an asterisk. Set the visibility to the public so other users can select the view from the Card View drop-down.

For example, John wants to create his personal view to see the cost field values as a column. He makes a new view named 'John's Column View':

Once created, the new view appears on the Card View in the Box configuration list, and users can select the new layout using the Card View drop-down. To modify the layout, click the Card View summary link in the in the Summary column:

Use the Column View creator to drag and drop the fields from the list of available fields onto the highlighted area:

Users can now apply the new view by selecting it from the Column View drop-down of the Gantt module:

Alternatively, you can add/remove columns using the Gantt modules interface as a Box Admin. When you modify the current view, a "Save as.." option will appear in the Column View drop-down:

Editing views

Click the 'Details' button to edit the name, visibility options, and description field of a given Card View and apply the changes by hitting the 'Save' button:
