Create asset custom fields

For more information on creating custom fields, refer to the Atlassian documentation.

You can add multiple custom fields to Jira Service Desk customer portal and Jira issue create, view, and edit screens. Each custom field can contain different form assets. To create a custom field, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Jira Administration > Issues.

  2. Select Custom Fields from the menu in the Fields section.

  3. Click Add custom field.

  4. Click All in the left panel at Select Field Type popup.

  5. Select AIP Assets And Inventory Plugin Custom Field.

  6. Click Next. The custom field configuration appears.

  7. Enter Name for the custom field. For example, Computer Assets.

  8. Enter a Description if you want to show it under the custom field in Create/Edit/View screens.

  9. Click Create.

  10. Select the checkboxes of the screens on which this custom field will be displayed.

Configuring custom field content

Custom fields display all the assets of the system by default. You can limit the forms in the Custom Fields Configuration page. Here is how:

  1. Go to Assets > Settings > Custom Fields Configuration.

  2. Click Configure.

  • Custom field contents: You can filter your custom field by:

    • Asset Types: Only displays assets belonging to specific types (e.g., Laptops, Servers). If you want to show all assets (default), select this option, and leave the box empty.

    • Asset Filter: If you want to show assets by a filter, click this option and select a filter. You can only select from system filters.

    • Reporter's Assets: Limits options to assets assigned to the issue reporter.

  • Multiple select: Allow users to choose multiple assets for the field. If you enable this, only the first asset of the custom field will be editable.

  • Show search assets button at Jira Service Management

  • Show selected assets button at Jira Service Management

  • Cascade asset custom fields:

    For hierarchical asset fields, configure a child custom field linked to a parent field using the Asset List by Asset Types attribute. Script for linking is required.Refer to this page for detailed instructions.

  1. Click Save.

Now, the custom field will display all assets or the assets of the selected Asset Types, filter, or reporter's assets. You can test it on the Issue screens.

Add asset custom fields to a request type for JSM customer portal

You can add multiple custom fields to the JSM customer portal and filter their content by Asset Type(s) or saved filters, allowing customers to provide additional information when submitting requests.

Important Note: Before a custom field can be used on the customer portal, it must first be added to the relevant project screens within Jira.

  1. Navigate to Jira Administration > Projects.

  2. Select a service project from the Project list. The Project settings opens.

  3. Select Request types.

  4. Choose a request type in which you want to use a multilevel structure, and click Edit fields. The Fields screen displays.

  5. Click Add a field.

  6. Select custom fields and click Apply to save yourchanges.

With these steps completed, the custom field will now be available for customers to use when submitting requests through the JSM customer portal.
