Page numbering can be turned on or off from a published Confluence page. You can see the Page page numbering link on in the page information section of a Confluence page.

Note

It is not recommended to combine macro numbering and page numbering on the same page. This is to prevent confusion, especially when using advanced configuration.

Configuration

You can change the configuration of the numbering if you do not want to use the default numbering format. Click the macro to see the option to edit the macro, and select Edit to open the macro editor.

  1. Number format: You can change the configuration of the numbering if you do not want to use the default numbering format.

    Choose a number format from the dropdown. For an overview of the available formatting options, refer to Formatting options.

  2. Starting numbers: Add a comma-separated list to change the starting numbers of several levels of headings.

  3. Starting heading: Choose the heading from which you want the numbering to begin.

  4. Skip headings: Skip the heading that you don't require to number.

  5. Add anchor links automatically: Check this box Include anchor links to your numbered headings in page-level configuration. Click the checkbox to include anchors in all the headings in the document. The primary function of adding anchors is to enable cross-referencing of content across different pages. Refer to the Numbered Heading Reference Macro for more information.

The hierarchy of numbering configuration starts with the page level taking precedence, followed by the space level, and then to the global level.
